Moon interesting facts

The moon is slowly, but steadily, drifting away from our planet. Every year, the moon moves approximately 5 centimeters (2 inches) away from the Earth
1. The Moon formed out of the Earth

Scientists now think that the Moon was formed when a Mars-sized object crashed into our planet about 4.5 billion years ago. The collision was so large that a huge spray of material was ejected into space. The orbiting ring of debris gathered itself into a sphere, and formed the Moon. How do we know that this is how the Moon probably formed? The Moon seems to be much less dense than the Earth and lacks a lot of iron in its core. Scientists think that the Moon is made up of the upper crust material, which has mostly lower density, than the composition of the Earth.

2. The Moon only shows one face to the Earth

Although the Moon used to rotate in the sky compared to our point of view, it has been slowing down billions of years. And at some point in the distant past it just stopped turning from our perspective. The Earth’s gravity holds the Moon in orbit, but it pulls differently at various parts of the Moon. Over a long period, gravity slowed down the Moon’s rotation so that it finally stopped, and always displayed one face to the Earth. A similar situation has happened with most of the large moons in the Solar System. In fact, in the case of Pluto and Charon, but objects are tidally locked to each other, so they present only one face to the other.

3. The Moon looks the same size as the Sun

This is an amazing coincidence. From our perspective here on Earth, but the Moon and the Sun look approximately the same size in the sky. Of course, the Sun is much much bigger than the Moon. The Sun happens to be 400 times larger than the Moon, but it’s also 400 times further away. This wasn’t always the case. Billions of years ago, the Moon was much closer than the Sun, and would have looked larger in the sky. And the Moon is moving away from us, so in the distant future, the Moon will look much smaller than the Sun.

4. The Moon causes most of the tides… but not all
You might know that the tides on Earth are caused by the gravitational pull of the Moon. But it’s not the only thing pulling at the Earth’s water, the Sun is helping out too. This is why we get very high and low tides from time to time. When the gravity of the Moon and the Sun line up, we get the biggest and smallest tides. Did you know that the Moon is also pulling at the crust of the Earth causing it to bulge up? You actually move a few meters every time the Moon is overhead, but you just don’t notice.

5. Gravity on the Moon is only 17% of the Earth

Want an easy way to lose some weight? Take a trip to the Moon and stand on its surface. Since the pull of gravity on the Moon is only 17% the pull of gravity on the Earth, you’ll feel much lighter. Just imagine, if you weighed 100 kg on the Earth, you would feel like you only weighed 17 kg on Earth. You would be able to jump 6 times further and carry objects 6 times as heavy. In fact, you had wings attached to your arms, you could even fly around inside a dome on the Moon under just your own muscle power.

6. The official name for the Moon is… the Moon

I know it’s kind of confusing, but the only real name for the Earth’s Moon is “the Moon”. When the Moon was given its name, astronomers didn’t know that there were moons orbiting other planets. And so they just called it the Moon. Now that we know there are other moons, it all comes down to the capitalization. The Earth’s moon is referred as “the Moon”, with a capital “M”. Other moons are given a lowercase “m” to show the difference.
7. The Moon is the 5th largest natural satellite in the Solar System
You might think that the Moon is the largest satellite in the Solar System. I mean look at it, it’s huge! But there are actually larger moons in the Solar System. The largest moon is Jupiter’s Ganymede (5,262 km), followed by Saturn’s Titan, Jupiter’s Callisto, Jupiter’s Io, and finally, the Earth’s Moon with a mean diameter of 3475 km.

8. Only 12 people have ever stepped onto the surface of the Moon

Only a tiny group of astronauts have ever set foot on the surface of the Moon. These were the astronauts on board the Apollo missions going from 1969 to 1972. The first person to ever walk on the Moon was Neil Armstrong. And the last person on the Moon was Gene Cernan, who followed his partner Jack Schmitt into the lunar lander on December 14, 1972.

9. And we’re going back to the Moon

NASA has been given the mission to return humans to the Moon, and set up a permanent research station. At the time of this writing, astronauts are expected to set foot on the surface of the Moon again in 2019.

Space Exploration Made by Spinning Robotic Landers a Hop and Skip


LAUREL, Md. — A former robot contender for the Google Lunar X Prize may find resurrection as a robotic lander for surface missions to planets and moons across the solar system. Its secret rests in a spinning midsection based on proven satellite technology that ensures almost unshakable stability.
The spinning lander could land and hop across alien surfaces on springy legs that have the flexibility "between a golf club shaft and a fishing pole," said Rex Ridenoure, president and CEO of Ecliptic Enterprises in Pasadena, Calif. His company holds pending patents on the space technology that originated with Harold Rosen, a satellite pioneer.
One version of the lander intended for an asteroid mission might have extra detachable harpoon legs to temporarily anchor itself to the rock, Ridenoure told a crowd of scientists and engineers at the 9th IAA Low-Cost Planetary Missions Conference here. Another version aimed at Europa might add a drill for tapping the Jupiter moon's icy secrets.
Whatever the destination, the spinning design ensures a relatively easy landing compared to most space missions.
"The neat thing is that the thing will not tip over," Ridenoure said. "The thing will just hop and bounce and skitter until it comes to a stop."
That vision began with Rosen, a former engineer for the Hughes Aircraft Company who first harnessed spinning back in 1965 as a way to stabilize satellites holding the same geostationary orbit above the Earth. His dual-spin design kept the main satellite body spinning while an instrument platform remained motionless.
Space explorers such as Galileo have also used the dual-spin concept. But even after Rosen retired from Hughes Space & Communications (now Boeing Satellite Systems), he harbored unfulfilled hopes of using spinning for stabilized robotic landings.
Rosen got his chance when the Google Lunar X Prize first debuted in 2007. The lunar landing competition offers a $20 million grand prize for landing a robot on a lunar surface, having it travel at least 1,650 feet (500 meters) and send data and images back to Earth.
The Southern California Selene Group formed by Rosen to compete in the Google Lunar X Prize included Ridenoure at Ecliptic Enterprises. The team designed a three-legged robotic contender, but eventually withdrew from the competition in 2008 after expressing philosophical differences with the X Prize Foundation's vision for commercializing space and human exploration.
But the spinning lander concept has not died.
Rosen handed off the technology to Ecliptic, and the company is now fielding queries from anyone interested in a possible low-cost lander mission. For comparison, the Southern California Selene Group had planned on a total mission cost of $20 million to $30 million while competing for the X Prize.
The spinning lander is small enough to reach many solar system targets by riding aboard a private Falcon 9 rocket developed by the commercial spaceflight firm SpaceX, Ridenoure said. And there is always the opportunity to pull up stakes and move if the original landing site doesn't work out.
"Once you get down on the surface, if you rotate the payload around and don't like the site, you can hop to another one," Ridenoure said.

News Corporation would get $100m for MySpace


 

MySpace 'will sell for at least $100m'.This is true friends.Contrary to earlier reports that the media giant was unable to achieve its asking price of $100m, a source close to the acquisition process told The Telegraph, that News Corporation would definitely get $100m for MySpace, if not more and has deliberately dragged its feet and revealed very few company financials in order to achieve the highest figure.

“News Corporation has been biding its time in order to get as much money as possible for the asset. It will easily achieve the $100m price tag if not more.
“The interested parties, of which there are more than have been reported, are at the due diligence stage and have only in the last week been allowed to see under the hood of MySpace’s figures and business activities. Until now, News Corporation has deliberately restricted information in order to get the price and interest up as high as possible. It’s turned into a dog race between the front runners,” the source said.
News Corporation is expected to sell the asset by or on June 30, 2011, in time for the end of its financial year. However, sources familiar with the deal process expect the procedure to run until “the very last minute”.
Front runners are believed to include: an investor group led by Bobby Kotick, the chief executive of games company Activision Blizzard, Criterion Capital Partners – the private equity company which bought Bebo from AOL last year and social networking site myYearbook.

Ayaan Mukherjee's next movie with Ranbir and Katrina


Ranbir kapoor is well known as chocolate boy of bollywood. He did a movie called Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani with katrina.He made a definite mark with his debut movie 'Wake Up Sid' and now he is back with another project, again backed up by Karan Johar and starring buddy Ranbir Kapoor.
Ayaan Mukherjee is said to have a road-trip kind of movie on his hand as his next directorial. Buzz is that Ranbir will have Katrina Kaif as his leading lady.
While Ranbir and Katrina's chemistry in 'Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani' and 'Raajneeti' worked well, the couple also made sensation off screen too. So with Ayaan's new movie, one can surely expect sparks flying between the hot-looking actors.
Coming back to the untitled film, it will be entirely shot in North India, mostly in Delhi. Now this is quite opposite to Johar's tradition to shoot in foreign places like London, UK or USA. All of KJo's projects are taken outside India.
It is said that blockbuster films like 'Tanu Weds Manu' and 'Jab We Met' inspired Ayaan to shoot in our very own desi locale. So sources believe that this is the first time that an entire produced by Karan will be shot in the smaller towns of North India.

Tools needed:

1) iTunes software.
2) Mac or Windows Computer.
3) Non-DRM Songs (Songs that you did not buy from the iTunes Store).

What you need to start the process is that you open iTunes, and find the song that you desire to make it as your ringtone.Determine the part that you want to make as your ringtone by listening to the song. Note down the start and the end time for the clip you want.Right click on the song and press “Get Info”. And on the options tab type your start time in the text box next to “Start Time” in minutes: 
seconds format, i.e. 1:00.
Do the same with the “Stop Time” box and in the same format. Make sure that you do not exceed the 40 seconds limit for your ringtone.Click ok, and right click on the song and select “Convert Selection to AAC”. Wait for conversion and you will a duplicate file with the same name of the converted song. Click on “Keep Files” button and find the file you have converted in the library that is shorter than the original one with the same file name. Usually you will find it in the folder of “Music> iTunes> iTunes Music>”.
The file will have the extension of .m4a and will have the same song name that you converted from. Change the file extension to .m4r through Right click on the file and choose rename. Or
Right-Click and select 
“Get-Info” on Mac.

Click yes on the warning message that you will see concerning changing the extension of the file. Double click the converted file and iTunes will automatically add it to your music library under the section of Ringtones.

Connect your iPhone and sync all your ringtones. If under any circumstances you find troubles syncing the ringtones then try changing the extension back to .m4a and try syncing again and again till you get it. Organize your folders that you do not delete any of your files so
that you can make a new folder and drag all your newly converted files into that folder that you can add to your iTunes library. Leopard Mac software may give you some troubles renaming files and you may not be able to put your files in the ringtones section. This method is totally legal and will not work with DRM files that you bought from iTunes library so make sure to get the songs that you did not buy from iTunes store.

Latest Schedule of Rebel starts from June 27


Prabhas is one of the youngest hero of Tollywood.He is planning for the movie called 'REBEL' directed by Raghava Larencce, the choreographer-turned-director, 'Rebel' with Prabhas, Anushka and Deeksha Seth in the lead roles had completed its schedule some time ago.
The latest schedule of the film would begin from June 27. In the previous schedule, the director shot some action scenes under the action choreography of Ram- Laxman involving Prabhas, Vishal Kaushik and Akash. The film is being produced by J Bhagawan and J Pulla Rao on the banner of Sri Balaji Cine Media.
Thaman is scoring music for the flick. As per the latest buzz, some comedy scenes and canning of a song would be carried out during the forthcoming schedule.
The producers are making efforts to complete the entire shooting by October and have set their eyes on its release in December.

In order to avoid clash between the father and son, Nagarjuna, who was the producer of 'Rajanna' had decided to postpone the release of the film giving way to 'Dhada'.

Spectacular win by India over West Indies

Really a very spectacular win by india over west indies.Rahul Dravid is the real hero for that.
The resolve the West Indian batsmen showed on the third evening didn't make an appearance on Thursday. The Indian bowlers weren't particularly threatening early on, regularly providing harmless leg-side deliveries. One of those broke the stand that had frustrated India for nearly two hours, with Bravo losing his leg stump after walking across to try and guide the ball to fine leg. In Praveen's next over, he had Chanderpaul chipping a catch to cover as the ball, after causing a cloud of dust on pitching, came on slower than the batsman expected.

West Indies' chances evaporated with those two strikes, and Harbhajan Singh made it worse, removing birthday boy Carlton Baugh for a duck. Sammy wasn't going to give up, though. He was struck on the forearm by a kicker from Harbhajan, which prompted him to attack. Some blacksmith-swings sent the final three deliveries of the over for leg-side sixes, with the last two flying into the second tier at least. The entertainment ended with Amit Mishra's first delivery, a tossed-up, over-pitched ball that Sammy wanted to send out of the ground but sent only as far as extra cover.

Brendan Nash, the vice-captain who has been desperately short of runs over the home summer, restricted himself to defensive nudges. When he attempted one of his first enterprising strokes, a pull off a short ball from Mishra, he was horrified to see the ball scoot through impossibly low to be trapped plumb lbw.

Ravi Rampaul gave the few fans that turned up something to cheer about with a series of swept and driven boundaries, the highlight of which was an inside-out six over extra cover off Harbhajan. Rahul Dravid is Test Cricket Hero


Mr dependable Rahul Dravid is the real hero of the test cricket.Even though he is not so much successful in one day cricket,he has the fire to play in test cricket.
It is already 15 years since a simple, elegant, studious and very likeable young man walked out to bat for India at Lord's. That was an appropriate setting. Rahul Dravid is neatly turned out, plays the game correctly, likes the traditions associated with the game and is respectful of them. It is not difficult to see why the English would like him. In 1996, though, he was significantly more humble and courteous than those I seemed to run into at the ground.
Not much has changed since then. He is still as intense as ever, still unlikely to sport the ponytail he rejected in one of his earliest commercials, still deeply enamoured by the idea of playing for India, still very out of place in the Kingfisher jingle. That intensity is worth studying, though, for Dravid knows no other way of playing the game. Like a good student would, he assimilates data, works out what he is going to do, and focuses as intently as anyone who has played the game. Patience has been a childhood friend, and it has allowed him to retain the intensity. Impatience is the hallmark of youth, and while Dravid has been young in years, he has always sported a maturity that belies them.
There have been times when some of us feared that intensity; when we wondered if the fire within would singe him, and whether he just needed to get his mind off the game and relax a bit. We feared every ball would become a battle to be fought, a storm to be withstood. But as he often told me in those days, it was the same method that had brought him so many runs. It was the person he was; the challenge he relished that defined the way he played the game. He knew, as he repeatedly said, that he wasn't a Sehwag, that he had to bat longer to score the same number of runs; that therefore, he needed to focus strongly and prepare well for a game. It was a debate he was willing to get into but it was a solution he had to find himself. As it turns out, the way he knew best has so far brought him 12,215 runs in Test cricket, and that number tends to seal most debates.
We need to let that number roll off our tongues a bit more often because it is a colossal figure. It is not a number you dream of achieving, because it is too distant. It is a product of extraordinary ability and dedication. In 1994 his father would call to request, for class runs in the family, if he could get a video of his son playing in domestic cricket. Dravid's father can be very proud of the way his son has graced the game and scored runs.
There are other reasons too; reasons apart from the tenacity, the fire, the cover drive and the catches at slip. In the 16 years that I have had the pleasure of knowing him, I have rarely encountered ego or anger. Maybe the dressing room, a place I stay away from, has seen the odd outburst, but ego and anger are like cholesterol and sugar in the blood; eventually they will get you.
In a way it is good that Dravid, VVS Laxman and Sachin Tendulkar have had an extended run, for there must be a gradual handing over of the baton. Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara, Suresh Raina or Rohit Sharma must know what it takes to seek greatness, and maybe then achieve it. They will have to fight their own battles but a live example would help. That is why I am particularly delighted that Dravid plays in the Ranji Trophy whenever he can. He has often spoken of hanging on to every word that people like Gundappa Viswanath spoke to youngsters in Karnataka. And now that the time has come to carry forward that tradition, he is doing his bit. Cricket could do with more Johnny Appleseeds.
I don't know how much longer he will play for India, for by the time he plays at Lord's next, he will be closer to 39 than 38. But what I do know is that whenever an all-time Indian XI gets picked, Nos. 1, 3 and 4 will be written simultaneously.

Sharukh Khan isn't borrowing Robot for Ra. One


 
As we all know that Rajni Kanth Robot created sensation all over the world.But Shah Rukh Khan and Anubhav Sinha are no more paying any heed to charges of similarities between 'Ra. One' and 'Robot'. Shrugging away all the accusations, in the current set of promos they have even retained shots from certain portions of 'Ra. One' which gave hint of 'Robot' (for example the famous train sequence)
Though the sequence may turn out to have a different context to it, what is surprising is to see Shah Rukh Khan and Anubhav Sinha being nonchalant about it. This despite the fact that 'Robot' has been much seen and liked film which has managed such a cult status amongst it's audience that any similarity like this is bound to be immediately noticed.

"Guess it was all intentional to send out a strong message that 'Ra. One' wasn't worried about the comparison and was willing to take on detractors heads-on", comments a prominent filmmaker on condition of anonymity, "Shah Rukh doesn't seem to be worried about detractors. Otherwise why would he have included this shot when he had a mere 100 seconds to fill up for the teaser? He could have included anything else."
Tell Anubhav about the charge of copying, especially since 'Ra. One' would be arriving a year after 'Robot' and he fires away, "When you are making a film and end up realising that another released film already has a similar sequence, you do contemplate dropping you sequence if you are serving anything stale. But then we didn't even thing like that because we knew what we are making."

Continuing in his defence, Anubhav argues, "Also, for the records, let me state some more facts. We shot the entire train sequence last year in February while 'Robot' released later in October. Do I need to say more?"

A red Tibetan mastiff has become the priciest dog in the world after being sold for 10 million Chinese yuan, or £945,000.Big Splash, or Hong Dong in Chinese, was bought by a coal baron from the north of China.
And it's lucky his new master is a multi-millionaire, because the hefty price tag doesn't factor in Big Splash's diet – enough chicken and beef to fill a growing 180lb dog, spiced up with Chinese delicacies such as sea cucumber and abalone
His owner will need a big house too, as adult Tibetan Mastiffs have been known to weigh as much as 286lb, or more than 20 stone – the same as a sizeable rugby player. However the typical weight for a fully grown Tibetan Mastiff is around 13 stone.
But according to breeder Lu Liang, Big Splash is a 'perfect specimen' and the extravagant price for the 11-month-old is completely justified.
He said: 'We have spent a lot of money raising this dog, and we have the salaries of plenty of staff to pay' – adding that the new owner could charge almost £10,000 a time for Big Splash to breed with a female.
The high price paid for the dog is a sign that the red Tibetan mastiff has become a status symbol in China, replacing jewellery and cars as a way for the super-rich to show off their wealth.
Not only is red considered a lucky colour, but Tibetan mastiffs are thought to be holy animals, blessing their owners' health and security.
Tibetans believe the dogs have the souls of monks and nuns who were not good enough to be reincarnated as humans or into Shambhala, the heavenly realm.
Owners of the breed have included Queen Victoria, King George IV and Genghis Khan – who supposedly took 30,000 of the dogs with his army in his bid to conquer Western Europe

James Pally, a Tibetan mastiff breeder from Pantymwyn near Mold in Flintshire, North Wales, said:
'They are very smart and they think for themselves and can sense danger very acutely.
'Tibetan mastiffs were originally used to guard the livestock and they are very good with other animals and they love children.
'I have six of them and if you don't give them enough attention they sit in front of the TV.'
The title of most expensive dog in the world was previously held by a Tibetan mastiff called Red Lion, who was valued at £915,000 last year.

Chess Academy Launched by Viswanathan Anand

Due to lack of the time for Viswanathan Anand,he cant able to concentrate on this chess academy.But Viswanathan Anand has decided to launch NIIT Mind Champion Academy (NIIT-MCA) to promote chess among schoolchildren in Bihar on Thursday. The academy would provide chess infrastructure to schools for promotion of the mind game. The sate government would provide computers to registered school-level chess clubs as per its computerization program. 
 
NIIT-MCA would initially cover 400 schools while more school would be covered after noting the success of the program. Viswanathan Anand, while addressing a function at the Indira Gandhi Planetarium, said, "For me, it is exciting. I dreamt of taking chess to states where it has not been played and also to rural areas. The launch of NIIT-MCA in Bihar is exciting. Chess helps academic performance, computers help academic performance and also chess. We need to use technology for chess and life."
The function was also attended by the deputy CM of Bihar, Sushil Kumar Modi and Human resources development minister, Hari Narayan Singh besides other state officials. Deputy CM hailed Anand, saying that he made the game a national phenomenon. Government would do its best to promote the game in Bihar. A new indoor stadium for chess is coming up at Kankerbagh.
Viswanathan Anand expressed satisfaction over the working of chess academies in Assam, Tripura, Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.

Ranji trophy starts from november 3



Ranji Trophy matches starts from november 3 2011.The BCCI Corporate Tournament for the Raj Singh Dungarpur Trophy will be played from September 1-8 in Vishakhapatnam, Chennai and Bengaluru. Jaipur will host the Irani Cup game between Ranji Trophy winners Rajasthan and the Rest of India from October 1-5. The next tournament, decided by BCCI Tour, Programmes and Fixtures Committee at its recent meeting in Mumbai, is the NKP Salve Challenger Trophy, to be played at Nagpur from October 10-13. For Ranji Trophy first division, eight teams - Rajasthan, KSCA, Mumbai, Railways, UPCA, Punjab, Saurashtra and Orissa - have been placed in Group A. Group B comprises of seven teams in Baroda, TNCA, Haryana, Delhi, Gujarat, Bengal and MPCA. The knockout matches of Ranji Trophy Elite Group will be played from January 2-23 next year. Ranji Trophy Plate group matches will be played from November 3 to December 9. The semifinals will be played from December 21-24. The winners of the semifinals will qualify for the knockout stage of the Ranji Trophy Elite Division. In Ranji Trophy Plate Division -- Andhra, Services, Kerala, Vidarbha, HPCA and Tripura -- have been placed in Group A, while Maharashtra, Goa, Hyderabad, Jharkhand, Assam, Jammu and Kashmir will make up Group B. The Duleep Trophy will be played from January 27 to February 16 next year while the inter-state one-day league will be played from February 20-28, 2012. The All-India inter-state knockout tournament for the Vijay Hazare Trophy will be played from March 5-12, 2012 while the Deodhar Trophy will be played from March 16-19, 2012. The inter-state T20 zonal league will be played in September-October and the All-India inter-state T20 knockout tournament for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, will be played from March 23-27, 2012.

The American girl Venus won the match against kim in wimbledon.In women singles, Venus entered into third round.Wednesday the match happened and the scores are as follows.Venus(6-7(6-8),6-3,8-6) won against Japan veteran 40 years old kim.
After Wimbledon, the Williams sisters are scheduled to come to Washington DC. Venus is scheduled to play for the World Team Tennis Washington Kastles in DC on July 5th. Venus will follow two days later.
The sister superstars are coming off long layoffs due to injuries. Serena Williams is a No. 7 seed and Venus Williams is a No. 23 seed at Wimbledon this year. But given their athleticism and past success on the grass– between them they have won eight of the last ten Wimbledon Championships – they can’t be counted out. The big questions to answer are how fit are they, and can they find their way back to their previous heights?
Given their long layoffs upon entering the tournament, it may be too much to ask that either or both can make it to the Wimbledon finals. But it will be interesting to see how deep into the tournament they can go.
